God Warrior

I'm not a religious person. I believe if someone has beliefs then they are entitled to them. As long as I'm entitled to mine.
I have a problem though with religious zealots, of all persuasions, occasionally their fervent tirades can come across as fanatical rants. Giving the impression of a mad, howling preacher, who's lost all sense of reality and reason.

There are other's who appear to be the opposite of this. Genuine mental illness, finding an outlet in religious rampages.

The link below will show you a clip from Trading Spouses. In Britain we know this show as Wife Swap. I was struck by the happiness and calmness of the family, singing, laughing and enjoying each other. Right up until their mother arrived and turned the place upside down with her rantings. I'll leave it up to you to decide which camp she fits into. My personal view is, the second.

Have a look at Trading Spouses and see for yourself. (I've removed the link as it seems to have been taken over by a porn site)

I find it hard to believe that someone who claims to be a Christian can be so violently intolerant. She rips things up, not even knowing what they are, whilst berating her family for not checking the other woman's Christian credentials. She claimed that she needed their prayers, even when her daughter told her that she had prayed for her everyday, she completely ignored her and continued berating them for not praying for her.
When the teenage daughter sulkingly said "Oh so it's my fault" She got the chilling retort "You did come into my mind!" Delivered with a pointing finger.

I look forward to a follow up reality show. "Daughter's first boyfriend." Imagine that initial confrontation. You walk into the house to meet her parents and all you get is this screaming lunatic "ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN? ARE YOU DARK-SIDED? DO YOU INTEND TO FORNICATE WITH MY DAUGHTER? GARGOYLE!!, SLAGGOT!! ect. ect. "
All delivered in her Wicked Witch of the West, drawl.

I am taking a stand. In the name of GAAAAWD!

That was scary. Thanks for freaking me out on a sunny weekend. That woman has a mental health problem and, having grown up with a mother with mental health problems myself, the thing that scared me the most was the look of fear in the littlest girl's eyes. To grow up in that kind of environment is damaging. It's not really anything to do with religion. I wonder about the program makers' ethics, letting soemthing go that far in the first place (I won't blame them for not spotting the mother's potential for mental health issues earlier- some people are very good at appearing stable when it suits them). Anyway, thankfully the father looked a little bit sane and was shown comforting the wee girl. But the program makers delivered the final kicker with consummate timing and dry humour (who says Americans don't do irony?)- the final screen where Margaret "reviewed her decision". Classic. I would've like it better though if they'd called social services to protect those children. Let's hope that (a) the dad manages to keep some semblance of sanity himself so he can protect them til they are old enough to leave home and (b) that they were positively influenced enough by the visiting spouse that they all turn to various non-Christian beliefs when they grow up, say one becomes a pagan, one a Buddhist and one a militant atheist. Childish of me, I know.

I think she needs an exorcist, a xxl straight jacket, and some prozac.
