Legal Dramas

What is it about legal dramas that make them so fascinating? For some reason I can't get enough of them.

I'm working my way through my new DVD Box sets, Kavanagh QC, The Brief and Rumpole of the Bailey.

Perhaps I feel I've missed my calling.

John & Edward

Am I alone in finding the level of hatred, directed at two young boys a bit disturbing? Let's face it, they can't sing very well (although better than me!) But all they're trying to do is be entertaining! In some respects they are acheiving this!
It does make wonder though, who is voting for them!

Jade Goody

Jade Goody finally passed away this morning, on Mothers Day of all days. A bit poignant since the whole thrust of the media circus that has developed around her was designed to generate as much money for her sons before she died.
She has received criticism from some quarters, decrying her cynical exploitation of her illness for financial gain. I would be prone to agree that it's all a bit unsavoury if she was exploiting a relationship break up or one of those celebrity breakdowns which bear no resemblance to a normal persons breakdown ie it's over very quickly and you only have the strength to write a book about it or film a reality TV during it!! The fact is Jade Goody illness being exploited was in fact a terminal one. A bit extreme for even the most desperate publicity seeker. In the same dreadful situation I would milk it for everything my family could get. I'd have Max Clifford living in my house pulling the strings and getting every last penny for my wife and kids before, during and after my death. There have been several serious personalities and journalists in recent times who have documented their decline to cancer albeit in a more dignified fashion, but have exploited it none the less. They received no criticism any where near to the level that Jade Goody did. That in my book is double standards.
In the end they all succoumbed to the Illness that has affected virtually every family in the country. The fact that the amount of people requesting check ups in the hope of catching it before it's too late can only be a good thing.

Russell & Jonathan

I'm sure you know which Russell and Jonathan I'm referring to.

I haven't heard the offending show. I don't ever listen to them although I have enjoyed Jonathan Ross's humour since the 1980's. I'm not in a position to comment on the the matter in hand. From the sounds of it they overstepped the mark and have got their knuckles rapped.
The part that intrigues me more is the amount of complaints the pair have received. When the show was broadcast it got two complaints. At the last count this was up to over 30,000. Which means there are around 30,000 people out their who never heard the broadcast and yet felt compelled to complain after others had done so. Why? Have they so little in their lives they have to jump on the nearest bandwagon? Especially now that the credit crunch is getting boring! Or did they all listen to the show, laugh along with the wheeze and then feel guilty afterwards. By joining the crowd they attempt to blend in and atone for their sins. My guess is they also shed copious amounts of tears when Diana died and felt they had known her even though they didn't. They felt they'd heard the show even though they didn't!

Bonekickers!

Two episodes in and I feel compelled to write about this programme. The premise looks fine in theory. It's never a good idea to take the historical element of these things too seriously but I do have a problem with a couple of the characters. The ball-breaking alpha female type has been done to death. I've never met a woman (or man for that matter) who acts like this. The over the top "we've got work to do" attitude is so annoying. I may find myself compelled to watch it every week, just so I can indulge in a therauputic hate-fest! The other character is the older guy who was set up as knowing loads about everything. Already his vast knowledge is making even Dr Who appear like the school nungy! I'll have to keep watching to see if he gets anything wrong.
